ACCI and ICC Australia Zoom Conference with Ted O’Brien MP, Federal Member for Fairfax, Queensland, Chair of the Standing Committee on the Environment and Energy, Special Envoy for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Federal Queensland MP Ted O’Brien MP says he’s delighted to be taking on a new role as federal government’s top official to help steer the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.

He’ll take on the job of special envoy after playing a key role in securing the rights for Brisbane as the Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s personal representative.

“There is no doubt that cooperation between the three tiers of government is a pre-requisite for success, candidly I don’t think the Queensland public will cop any breakout where one tier of government decides to do the dirty on the other.”

He said there was a “decade runway” to the Games and said it was important not to politicise it, with all levels of government to unite “to get the job done”.

ACCI and the International Chamber of Commerce Australia held a zoom conference with Ted O’Brien MP, Federal Member for Fairfax in Queensland, Chair of the Standing Committee on the Environment and Energy, Special Envoy for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Ted O’Brien MP recently wrote an essay entitled The China Question: The Greatest Challenge to Our Generation. The Federal Member for Fairfax, who is uniquely qualified on the topic after spending much of his 20-plus years in business working in and around China, proposes three principles to guide Australia’s approach to resolving the China question. “First, we should reject the Chinese Communist Party’s framing of Australia; second, we should stand firm against undue pressure from China and; third, we should look for avenues to renew the relationship” he wrote.

At this video conference, the Ted O’Brien MP elaborated on his essay and his thoughts regarding the Australia-China relationship.

Following his address Ted answered many questions in the Q&A session.
