Tourism Update

29 Apr 2022

Today Australian Chamber – Tourism released seven key priorities that the tourism sector would like to see committed to by both parties in the lead up to the election to assist in the recovery and capitalise on the potential of the visitor economy. There’s a lot of ground to make up, and now that the international borders are open and the cruise industry has restarted, it is a crucial time for our next federal government to support rebuilding tourism businesses and kickstart tourism growth.

Australian Chamber – Tourism supports the priority areas in ACCI’s Back Australian Business campaign, particularly around workforce participation, skills development, migration and addressing significant increases in the cost of business insurance. In addition, to help the tourism industry get ahead in 2022 and beyond, Australian Chamber – Tourism has called on our political parties to commit to a range of election priorities, including to equip Tourism Australia to remain a world leader in international destination marketing, introduce initiatives to make Australia a cost competitive destination, and more. Read the priorities here and accompanying media release here.

We have already seen some priorities committed to by the Coalition and have called for these commitments to be matched by the major parties. We are engaging with all major parties to seek a commitment to all seven priorities to ensure Australia is in the best position to attract visitors in a highly competitive market.
