Employment and skills update | 10 June 2022

09 Jun 2022

In the latest OECD economic outlook released this week, Australia was reported to be experiencing the second most severe labour shortages in the developed world, reinforcing ACCI’s calls for immediate government action to fix the labour and skills crisis.

ACCI has been active in the media about the need for reforms to Australia’s skilled migration system and an urgent fix for visa processing delays. It is positive that the newly-appointed Immigration Minister Andrew Giles has already confirmed that processing outstanding visa applications is a priority for the Government and he has asked the Department of Home Affairs to act on the problem as a priority.

We are continuing our advocacy to ensure the skilled migration system is more accessible and responsible, including advocating for  employer sponsored migration to be available for all skilled occupations.
