Additional 180,000 free TAFE places
At this weeks National Cabinet meeting the Commonwealth, states and territories agreed to fund an additional 180,000 free TAFE places in 2023. We understand the 180,000 figure includes 60,000 new places including the 45,000 free TAFE places that were an election commitment by the government. We will be reminding the government that there needs to be funding for non TAFE providers as an effective VET system is one where funding is directed to providers that best suit the students needs. They also agreed to commence work on a new National Skills Agreement to be in place from January 1, 2024 informed by the vision statement and guiding principles.  We now know the negotiations for the new NASWD will be much delayed.
