Tourism update | September 9, 2022

08 Sep 2022

Following last week’s Jobs and Skills Summit there has been progress on a number of initiatives directly relevant to ACCI – Tourism to address workforce needs. In particular, in a joint media release from Minister for Trade and Tourism Don Farrell and Minister for Social Services Amanda Rishworth, it was announced that $3.3 million would be allocated to establish a Visitor Economy Disability Pilot to help people living with disability secure sustained jobs in tourism. The Pilot will address barriers previously identified by small and medium tourism businesses in recruiting, retaining and progressing staff with disability. A new targeted approach to supporting businesses experiencing skills and worker shortages will be tested through the Pilot with the funding of place-based Local Navigators in regional locations. ACCI is engaging with Austrade and the Department of Social Services to make sure there are opportunities for members to be involved and benefit from the Pilot.
