Jobs and Skills Australia
ACCI’s skills unit has been fortunate to be involved in many activities relating to the formation of Jobs and Skills Australia. On Tuesday, we lodged our submission to the Senate Education and Employment Committee review on the Jobs and Skills Australia Amendment Bill 2023 [Provisions], see here. We used the submission as another opportunity to call for an independent statutory authority, ACCI’s presence on the Ministerial Advisory Board, the need for greater linkages between JSA and the Jobs and Skills Councils. ACCI will be appearing before the Senate Committee on Monday morning to discuss our submission in greater detail. On Thursday, ACCI attended the JSA Consultative Forum in Melbourne which provided an opportunity for industry’s voice to be heard on the startup work the organisation is undertaking, particularly in relation to initial workplans, roadmaps and overall strategic priorities.
Meeting with Prime Minister’s office
On Wednesday, Natalie Heazlewood and David Alexander had the opportunity to meet the key adviser responsible for skills, workforce planning and higher education. ACCI was able to make key representations on the need for ACCI on JSA’s Ministerial Advisory Board, the need for interoperability between JSA and Jobs and Skills Councils that is future-proofed, and the need for the Universities Accord to take a holistic approach to tertiary education.
Foundational Skills Study – input on survey design/data collection
Jobs and Skills Australia has invited input on the design of a new national study on adult literacy, numeracy and digital skills. This includes elements such as a survey of Australian adults to assess their current skills level. JSA is seeking feedback on the design of the study, including questions around definitions, current use of foundational skills data, and type of information sought. If members have any feedback on the questions in the Discussion Paper, please contact the E&S team by COB April 17.
