New NCVER data release: Government-funded students and courses 2023
According to the recent National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) release, an estimated 7.1 per cent of the Australian resident population aged 15 to 64 years participated in government-funded VET in 2023. Over the five years from 2019 to 2023, student numbers increased by 9.2 per cent to 1,256,365.
The release summarises data about students, programs, subjects, and training providers in Australia’s government-funded vocational education and training (VET) system. It includes information from TAFE institutes, other government providers such as universities, private providers, and community education providers that receive government funding.
New employment data shows SMEs struggling
The latest Wave 64 SME Sentiment Tracker reported that small and medium enterprise employment declined. The data was collected from 19 June to 3 July.
Both revenue and sentiment continued the decline that commenced in early 2024. Accordingly, many SMEs are facing significant challenges that impact not only their financial well-being but also their health and personal relationships. As reported last month, recruitment data is at the lowest levels recorded over the past 12 months, and hence, we can continue to expect unemployment to rise soon.
