Apprenticeship Incentives Review

The ‘What We Heard’ summary paper from the Strategic Review of the Australian Apprenticeship Incentive System was released this week. The critical takeaway is unsurprising: Employer representatives and unions had differing views on the incentive system and how it should work. This paper aims to capture their views and ensure they have received all key points—it does not put forth recommendations at this time.

National Skills Taxonomy

ACCI participated in the Melbourne-based workshop on the National Skills Taxonomy this week. This was very useful, demonstrating that Jobs and Skills Australia is genuinely open to discussion and not fixed in its approach. ACCI has a one-on-one interview with the consultants next week to deepen our input. If you would like to provide specific insights, please get in touch.

Submissions underway

ACCI is currently working on the following submissions in the employment and skills space:

  • Regional Migration Settings
  • Migration Amendment Bill (Sponsorships and Nominations)
  • Universities Accord Implementation Papers (ATEC, Managed Growth Funding, Needs Based Funding)

ACCI is also participating in consultations for the National Skills Taxonomy, as discussed above. Given other engagements with this process, ACCI does not intend to submit a submission on their current discussion paper. ACCI will provide a written submission with feedback once a draft is released.

Employment and Skills Committee Meeting

The next Employment and Skills Committee meeting is on July 30 from 10 am to noon. ACCI will send the agenda and papers for this meeting next week.
