Batemans Bay will host The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Tourism Recovery Summit and General Council this week as business moves to back those impacted by the 2019- 2020 bushfires.
The coastal NSW town will support a comprehensive five-day suite of events attended by Australian business leaders, after ACCI announced its #BackingTheBush plans — a initiative of ACCI member BusinessNSW.
Over the course of the week, about 100 executives and board members from across the country will visit Batemans Bay for the Tourism Recovery Summit as well as ACCI’s quarterly General Council and Executive Management meeting.
Attendees will also tour regional businesses, including the Bawley Vale Estate Winery which was affected by the Currowan bushfire in December.
“Small businesses like Bawley Vale Estate Winery and its staff form the backbone of these communities, and its owners have lost the vital holiday trade which keeps them going for the rest of the year,” ACCI CEO James Pearson said.
“The aim of these events is to help bushfire-affected businesses in a practical way by bringing Australian business leaders to the area, spreading awareness, and inviting others to do the same.
“In addition, we hope the dollars spent this week will go a small way in helping this resilient community to get back on its feet.
Australian Chamber – Tourism chair John Hart said the Tourism Recovery Summit will be a “vital part of the rebuilding process for tourism.”
“It is the only forum that brings together Chambers, industry groups and regional small businesses to focus on how to shape the recovery of Australian Tourism.
“The outcome of the forum will aim to deliver a series of recommendations to Governments on how to best position tourism for a fast and full recovery.”
