FWC hands a 5.2 per cent wage increase to low paid workers
Earlier this week the Expert Panel of the Fair Work Commission handed down its 2022 Annual Wage Review decision.
The Panel’s decision was comparatively complex, with multi-part increase in wages awarded. The National Minimum Wage (NMW) will increase by $40 per week or 5.2 per cent. All other modern award wage rates will increase by 4.6 per cent increase or $40 per week, whichever is the higher.
The increase in the NMW equates to $1.05 per hour, raising it to $21.38 pre hour, or $2,084 per year, to $42,336 per year.
For most modern awards, the effect of the Panel’s decision will be that the 4.6 per cent wage increase will cut in around the C10 / trade level or for employees earning above $869.60 per week, with the flat $40 increase will apply to the lower classifications.
The increase applies from July 1 2022 for the NMW and the majority of modern awards, with the exception on 10 specified awards in the aviation, tourism and hospitality sectors.
