Apprentices and trainees data released
The September 2022 quarter data from the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) show there were 402,245 apprentices and trainees in-training as at September 30, 2022, 14 per cent higher when compared with the same time in 2021. However, closer examination reveals we are starting to see the impact of the ending of the Boosting Apprenticeship Commencement subsidy, with a 41.12 per cent decline in commencing apprentices and trainees compared with the same quarter in 2021. Indeed, the rate of commencements is back to 2019 figures, and may decline further as the current economic constraints hits employers further and there are no subsidy increases in sight.
