Franchising Code of Conduct

The Government has released its response to the Independent Review of the Franchising Code of Conduct which was undertaken by Dr Michael Schaper last year. ACCI made a submission to the review which is available here

The Government has agreed to or agreed in-principle with all 23 recommendations of the review, including ACCI recommendations to increase awareness of the Franchise Disclosure Register and develop guidance and educative materials. The Government has also agreed to look at the feasibility of introducing a licensing regime.

Further work on the Code, including consultation on an exposure draft of the new Code and the feasibility of the licencing regime, will be required in the coming months.

3G shutdown delay

Telstra has delayed the shutdown of their 3G network to 31 August 2024, two months later than the previously slated date of 30 June 2024.

The delay should to allow those with devices still on the network more time to transition off it, including those with applicable EFTPOS machines.

This delay is an outcome ACCI has sought through representations made to Telstra and Government over the past months.
