The Australian Chamber – Tourism has filed a further submission to the Fair Work Commission in relation to the annual wage review, reinforcing the position that any increase in award wages for aviation and tourism, accommodation and food services, as well as the arts and recreation services sector should be delayed until no earlier than November 1, 2022.

This submission was in response to an information note prepared by the FWC which suggested that the sectors were almost, or fully, recovered, therefore likely justifying a wage increase commencing on July 1. Of particular concern was the use of job vacancy rates as an apparent sign of a strong recovery for these sectors.

Australian Chamber – Tourism highlighted that the FWC should not interpret high job vacancy rates as a sign of a strong recovery or an indication that businesses in the sector are performing well. Final submissions have now been filed and a decision can be expected by the end of next week.
