The latest Tourism Satellite Accounts were released, detailing quarterly tourism labour statistics. In the March quarter 2022, there were 645,000 filled tourism jobs. This was 2.4 per cent more than the December quarter 2021, and 3.6 per cent more than the March quarter 2021. However, when compared with estimates of tourism jobs at the end of December 2019 with those in the current quarter, it is clear the COVID-19 pandemic continues to have an impact on the Australian tourism sector. Tourism jobs peaked at 749,400 in December 2019, and in March quarter 2022 is now at its highest level since the pandemic started. This still represents -13.9 per cent (-104,400) less tourism jobs, compared to 2.2 per cent (312,900) more jobs in the whole economy as at the end of this quarter.
