Tourism update | September 16, 2022

16 Sep 2022

The latest National Visitor Survey monthly snapshot for June 2022 has been released, with some positive signs for the tourism industry. Compared to pre-pandemic levels, overnight trips were down 14 per cent but overnight spend was up, increasing 22 per cent on June 2019. While visitor numbers have not returned to pre-pandemic levels, they are spending more money on average. The average trip spend was up $263 or 42 per cent to $888 compared to June 2019. Australian Chamber – Tourism’s advocacy continues to help ensure the industry has the workforce it needs. We are engaging with Government on a number of outcomes from the Jobs and Skills Summit including in relation to Fee-Free TAFE, eligibility for extension of post-study work rights for recent graduates, and the Visitor Economy Disability Employment Pilot.
