The 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12) is coming up on 12-15 June 2022 at WTO headquarters in Geneva following postponement in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Topics at MC12 are expected to include: 

  • Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies 
  • Joint Ministerial Declaration on the advancement of gender equality and women’s economic empowerment within trade
  • OACPS Ministerial Declaration on the Twelfth WTO Ministerial Conference
  • LDC Ministerial Declaration for the Twelfth WTO Ministerial Conference 2021
  • Final draft declaration on micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) 
  • Draft ministerial decisions on the Work Programme on Small Economies, and TRIPS non-violation and situation complaints 

Australia will continue to seek positive and meaningful results in WTO negotiations and on WTO reform at MC12. This includes Appellate Body reform, agricultural reform with a focus on domestic support, fisheries subsidies negotiations, plurilateral negotiations, gender equality and women’s economic empowerment outcomes and WTO transparency. 

The Moratorium on applying customs duties on electronic transmissions is up for renewal at MC12 and the OECD has released a brief underlining the potential customs revenue implications.
