Jobs and Skills Summit
On 1 and 2 September 2022, ACCI participated in the Commonwealth Government’s Jobs and Skills Summit, represented by Chief executive, Andrew McKellar.

Following the summit, Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, the Hon Tony Burke MP, announced a series of priority areas in workplace relations for (a) immediate action and (b) further work. These include strengthened tripartism, a revitalised culture of good faith negotiation in Australian workplaces and the establishment of a National Construction Industry Forum

The Government also declared its intention to update the Fair Work Act to provide greater flexibility, improve enterprise bargainingreduce complexity and better support work and family / caring. ACCI is engaging with Government on how these priorities are implemented to seek to ensure practical outcomes for Australian businesses.

 

Productivity Commission — Carer Leave Inquiry
ACCI recently consulted with multiple commissioners from the Productivity Commission regarding their inquiry into the introduction of a new carer leave entitlement into the National Employment Standards. 

On Thursday, September 8, 2022, ACCI provided an initial written submission to the Productivity Commission, emphasising the need for greater flexibility in the workplace relations system to enable employees to manage informal caring responsibilities.

 

Senate Select Committee on Work and Care Inquiry
On August 3, 2022, the Senate appointed a Select Committee on Work and Care to inquire into the relationship between work and caring responsibilities across Australia. As this inquiry has a strong workplace relations aspect to it, ACCI will be engaging with members of the Workplace Policy Committee and making a submission in due course.
