Modern slavery describes situations where offenders use coercion,threats or deception to exploit victims & undermine their freedom.
Practices that constitute modern slavery can include:
-human trafficking, slavery
-servitude, forced labour
-debt bondage, forced marriage, and the worst forms of child labour
Modern slavery can occur in every industry & sector and has severe consequences for victims. Modern slavery also distorts global markets, undercuts responsible business & can pose significant legal & reputational risks to entities.
The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry held a zoom conference with Jason Wood, Assistant Minister for Customs, Community Safety & Multicultural Affairs.
At this session the Minister addressed the Morrisons Government’s National Action Plan to combat modern slavery in Australia and the role of government & business in eradicating modern slavery in our supply chains & communities. The Minister also discussed other important plans & initiatives in his portfolios for Customs, Community Safety & Multicultural Affairs.
